green production

Environmental friendly production is a trending subject. Through consumer pressure, and from environmentalist and natural conservation organizations, there are voices to reduce chemicals in cocoa production, and to work in an environmental friendly way.

Certification schemes like EKO play a role in putting green production on the agenda. Green production involves high farm investments (e.g. in terms of labour) and can increase productivity.
